I've long been bigging up Dubbel Dutch and finally he has released his Throwback ep on Palms Out Sounds. It's an absolute corker and a real blend of styles. The thing I love the most about his production especially on Throwback is the drums, the snare is beastly, they've got such a good snappy feel to them. Any how I strongly recommend dishing out some coin for this beauty of a release......have a listen here though
Breach (aka Ben Westbeech) has been hard at work it seems, hitting soundcloud with a sizable slab of production. This one is called Fatherless and is getting massive support from the likes of Joy Orbison, Oneman and Dark Sky. A tasty fruitloop (Beastie Boys) style flute sample is the main component of this track which I literally can't wait to get my hands on......Heads up people
Now, for some house music from all ends of the spectrum. Chicago influenced deep house, tech house and disco house this post is just serving to indicate the variety that is out there at the moment....
Nice to see Ramadanman team up with his mate Midland to make this bouncy track
Kink is Bulgaria's answer to a massive black house pioneer from Chicago, here is his remix of German house wizards the Lovebirds, check out the original mix, it's a beaut
I really like the way Hot City uses rave stabs, it gives his tracks proper old school vibes. In this particular remix he cuts up the vocals from the original leaving hardly any left, which is a very good thing, and lays down trademark skipping beat and stabs...
Man of the moment James Blake has done this remix of Mount Kimbie. Blake's new ep CMYK is out now and if you haven't heard it or got a copy I strongly recommend you do. The guy is supremely talented and leading the way in the future sounds of dubstep....
Another Mount Kimbie remix for you. Falty DL, producer of one of the finest albums of 2009, hits up the garage vibes on this one. A dark and seedy little number...
Like a lot of students at this time of the year, I'm currently under a lot of pressure from work. Still I've decided to take a bit of time away from the weighty tomes to piece together a small batch of tunes that i've got from other blogs recently which i'm appreciating greatly...
Archie Hamilton's remix of Stardust is hefty bass reworking, fading in the original vocals at each breakdown, nice stuff
Doc Daneeka's remix of Sekta's popular club banger, strips down the aggressive synth slabs from the original, adds a more percussive funky beat and keeps Spoek Mathambo's vocals together.
FAT! Records are back after two years in the wilderness. Foamo aka Kye Gibbon has been quiet by his standards of late. This is a return to form though. Jookie is the new 2 track ep which dropped on monday. Jookie is the a-side and has been getting plays from loads of top players Zinc, Julio Bashmore and Drop the Lime to name a few. Vibeing off the approaching sunny days and festival season Kye has produced two tracks sure to rip up floors and festivals all summer. "JOOKIE represents a subtle yet decided shift away from the 'bass in your face' approach. Drumline percussion, marching horns and ever-rising synths are underpinned by a growling bassline. The drop recalls Dubfire, simultaneously transporting you to the dancefloor at Space as the track becomes some kind of twisted rolling monster.CENTAVO sees Foamo reworking the formula. Like L-Vis 1990 doing Fake Blood ultra-rigid programmed drums, more brass and an odd vocal provide the backdrop for a high pressure bass workout. House music at its toughest. This sounds as much at home in the depths of London as it would on a festival stage."
have a listen and look out for dates on the myspace page. He is Chew the Fat resident Dj and regularly smashes it with his sets. Be sure to buy the ep if you like it.....
I've been meaning to do a post on this guy for a while. Headhunter has never been one of those producers to have one particularly outstandingly successful song . His album Nomad released back 2008 was a success but it never reached giddy heights. Despite saying all this the Bristolian producer is a widely respected DJ and producer, he has had constant releases on Tempa which Skream also releases on. But it's not until he decided to produce under a new moniker of Addison Groove and do his own take on a form of Chicago born music called Juke House that he has had his first straight out hit.
If you haven't heard it yet, it's called Footcrab and you might be surprised when you first do. If you're out and you hear it, don't try and dance to it you'll look very weird trying to. None of this is making it sound good but I think this song is great, it's got some nice chords, a steady beat and two very nice vocal samples pieced together to make one of the most original and fun productions of the year so far...
He has been on doing stuff on Radio with none other than Ms Mary Anne Hobbs and done an amazing mix for here show, it's all skittering beats and moody synths and it's well worth a listen
